CROTTA Cabernet Sauvignon

This 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon has a nice robust flavor. The wine is actually fairly inexpensive, but the bouquet is great and the taste is really nice. It’s a great everyday wine for meals or on its own. It is 13.8% alcohol, so it does have a good amount of alcohol, but not so much to overwhelm it.

Pine Ridge Crimson Creek Merlot

This 2004 Merlot is actually a Merlot blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is from Napa Valley California. It is a great blend. Don’t be scared because it’s a blend. It pairs very well with Penne Vodka made with pancetta, chicken and asparagus. It would also be great with any pork or red sauce dishes. Give it a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappoined. I was excited to find this in the local store. I visited this winery last September and enjoyed all of their wines.

Cycles Cabernet Sauvignon

Tried this wine at the wine-fest walkabout. Very smooth cab. Small amount of fruit in the taste. No harsh bite or after-taste like some cabs. Someone who doesn’t like reds can probably handle this one. This easy going cab will be added to by wine cellar.

Cosentino Cabernet Sauvignon

This cab was a pleasant surprise. It isn’t the best cab I’ve had, but it is certainly one of the better ones. Not very harsh, small hint of fruit. It was the perfect compliment to the meatballs, hummus, and miscellaneous appetizers we sampled at Uptown Bistro (Wichita). I probably wouldn’t drink this wine by itself, but I would order a bottle of this with a good entree.

Mezzacorona Pinot Noir

I had tried this red for the first time at the 8th annual (wine) walkabout. Probably the smoothest red I had all night. Not very fruity, not dry at all, no harsh bite, just goes down like water. I will be keeping this one stocked in my wine cellar from now on.

Rex Goliath Cabernet

Review: We tried the Rex Goliath Cabernet about 7 years ago. We were skeptical at first due to its price. I must say, we were happily surprised. It’s a very good red. It’s not overly dry and has a great flavor. To this day it is one of our favorite Cabernets.
